Korcula Road Trip day 2

We had such a fine time in Korcula!  The bora wind was blowing strongly for a couple days to we stayed put in the marina.  We rented motorscooters for fun.  The first day all 4 of us went out. Drove to Lumbarda where Mike and I had stopped previously, had a drink on the beach and then took them to the Grk winery.  The Grk grape is only found on Lumbarda and there are only 40 hectares of grapes.  Apparently there was a blight on the grapes years ago and this is the only strain left from then.  It's VERY GOOD!  We then went to a beach for the rest of the day (Prizina)...Mike and I had spent a night on anchor here previously!  It was a very nice day.
The 2nd day Mike stayed with the boat because the bow thrusters weren't working and he was waiting on a mechanic.  He was going to join us later but the mechanic didn't come until so late.  Chris, Megan and I rented scooters with the intent of going to Vela Luka.  But we took a scenic route instead.  Crossed over the mountain on a road that was so steep was almost could go with 2 of us on a scooter!  We had to make it to Pupnat ( pronounced Poop Naught) ha! We then were afraid we were low on gas so drove down the other side to the town of Smokvica where the gas station was closed until 6 PM!!!!  So we went to the coast to Brna and spent the afternoon at a nice hotel with swimming area on the rocks !  Stopped at some beautiful wineries in the Smokvica, Brna area...it was a surprisingly, lovely detour and we had an enjoyable day!  Made it back to Korcula marina to Mike, the boat was fixed and I made a good batch of Vegetarina sphagetti!!!!

June 7,2006

Arrived in Bucharest on the 4th. Took the Marriott shuttle with Mom Mix to the Marriott where our beautiful room and heavenly beds were awaiting us!!! Bailey got to stretch a bit and relieve herself and then off she went with Radu and Alex to spend the next few days.
Then I took a bath and went off to sleep!

Monday I slept until about 8. Mom was up earlier. We ate breakfast in the nice restaurant with a harpist who played beautifully. She gave us her card...Cornelia......She liked having an appreciative audience. Went to the Bechtel office and got a phone, exchanged some money, made some concert arrangements with the concierge then we felt tired again.....so went back to sleep and slept 2 1/2 more hours!!!! We both have colds...sniffles and sneezing....Got up and took a taxi down to Lipscani for a walk around....I bought an alabaster pear and apple...each had a real stem and a little alabaster leaf! Then back to the hotel....We're TIRED!!! Ate in the exec.lounge and back to bed!!! Aren't we fun?

Tuesday. Breakfast again! I am enjoying having a turkish breakfast ( tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and feta cheese or some kind of white chees) plus brie and smoked salmon with capers! Yum! Radu took us for a driving tour of the city. Drove by both of our old houses, the school, Baneasa area, downtown, the Memorial to the unknown soldier, the graveyard of the heroes of the revolution, The Palatul Patriarch (the main church of the Romanian orthodoxchurch where there is a mummy which was a good person who died and miracle.....when they exhumed her body it was mummified!....the poeple kiss her exposed finger. Painting with gold guild on the ceilings and walls, lots of ornate gold..... Then we came back to the hotel....Mom not feeling well so didn't go to piano concert at the athenium... I worked out in the gym and had sandwiches in the exec. lounge,,,showered then bed! That's all for now!
